Jan. 19: the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which honors the legacy of the civil rights leader and encourages Americans to participate in the MLK Day of Service
Feb. 16: Presidents Day, honoring our nation’s Presidents with particular attention towards commemorating President Washington and President Lincoln.
June 13: National Get Outdoors Day, a day when federal agencies, nonprofit organizations and the recreation industry encourages healthy, outdoor activities.
Sept. 26: National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort in support of public lands
Nov. 11: Veteran’s Day, commemorates the end of World War I and pays tribute to all military heroes past and present.

The last fee-free period for 2014 is Nov. 8-11 in honor of Veteran’s Day.

The Denver meeting will convene October 1, 2014, 1pm to 5pm, MDT, at the Denver Marriott West, 1717 Denver West Boulevard, Golden, CO 80401.  The Denver meeting will have a livestream option for people to participate remotely.  The meeting can be accessed at www.blm.gov/live/.

The Sacramento meeting will take place October 7, 2014, 1pm to 5pm, at the Double Tree by Hilton Sacramento, 2001 Point West Way, Sacramento, CA 95815.

As part of a continuing commitment to improvemanagement of the nation’s public lands, the Bureau of Land Management is reviewing the way they develop and update our Resource Management Plans (RMPs).

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released the Imperial Sand Dunes Proposed Recreation Area Management Plan (RAMP) and Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS). The RAMP also includes proposed amendments to the California Desert Conservation Area (CDCA) Plan. The RAMP provides guidance for the management of approximately 215,000 acres of BLM-administered public lands in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA) and surrounding public lands in southeastern Imperial County, Calif.

Under current regulations found in 43 CFR 8365.2-5 (a), no person shall discharge or use fireworks at a developed recreation site. Seasonal fire prevention orders issued under the authority of 43 CFR 9212.2 (a) are commonly used at the local level to reduce the chance of human-caused fires during peak fire season.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), in conjunction with other agencies within the Department of the Interior, will waive recreation-related fees for visitors to the National System of Public Lands on the first day of summer, June 21; National Public Lands Day, which is scheduled for September 24; and the Veterans Day holiday weekend, November 11-13. These fee-free days also apply to areas managed within the BLM’s National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS).
