Williams Ranger District To Implement Travel Management June 15

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – The Williams Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest will implement the Travel Management Rule tomorrow – Wednesday, June 15.  The Travel Management Rule requires all national forests and grasslands to designate a system of roads for motorized use, and to prohibit all motor vehicle use off the designated system.

2011 Fee-Free Days Set for BLM-Administered Public Lands

WASHINGTON, DC – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), in conjunction with other agencies within the Department of the Interior, will waive recreation-related fees for visitors to the National System of Public Lands on the first day of summer, June 21; National Public Lands Day, which is scheduled for September 24; and the Veterans Day holiday weekend, November 11-13. These fee-free days also apply to areas managed within the BLM’s National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS).

Fee-Free Days at National Parks Announced

January 12, 2011 - The National Park Service has announced Fee-Free days for 2011.  The program provides several fee free days throughout the year at more than 100 national parks that usually charge entrance fees.  The Fee-Free Days program was started in 2009 by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar to help Americans visit public lands in our National Parks during the economic downturn.

Salazar, Abbey Restore Protections for America's Wild Lands

Washington, DC (Dec 23, 2010) - A secretarial order issued today by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar restores balance and clarity to the management of public lands by establishing common-sense policy for the protection of backcountry areas where Americans recreate, find solitude, and enjoy the wild.

Secretarial Order 3310 directs the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), based on the input of the public and local communities through its existing land management planning process, to designate appropriate areas with wilderness characteristics under its jurisdiction as "Wild Lands" and to manage them to protect their wilderness values.
