Budget saves taxpayers $1.6B and increases funding for National Parks Infrastructure and Responsible Energy Development

WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump today proposed an $11.7 billion Fiscal Year 2018 (FY 2018) budget for the Department of the Interior. The President's budget allows Interior to carry out its core mission of responsible multiple-use of public lands in a way that both conserves America’s iconic landscapes and supports responsible resource development. The President’s budget prioritizes public lands infrastructure by increasing funding for National Parks to address their deferred maintenance backlog. The budget also prioritizes responsible American energy production on federal lands and national security. Interior Department Releases List of Monuments Under Review, Announces First-Ever Formal Public Comment Period for Antiquities Act Monuments

WASHINGTON (May 5, 2017) – The Department of the Interior today announced the first ever formal public comment period for members of the public to officially weigh in on monument designations under the Antiquities Act of 1906, and the Department released a list of monuments under review under the President’s Executive Order 13792, issued April 26, 2017. A public comment period is not required for monument designations under the Antiquities Act; however, Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke and President Trump both strongly believe that local input is a critical component of federal land management.

Illegal dumping continues to be a serious problem on all districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Dumping destroys the natural beauty and habitat of National Forest System (NFS) lands and discourages people from visiting areas where dumping is occurring.

Illegal dump sites are constantly being discovered. Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Law Enforcement Officers are finding dumps that include yard debris, animal carcasses, household garage, appliances, and even motor vehicles.

Orders Strengthen America’s Outdoor Heritage and Restore Opportunities for Sportsmen and Anglers

WASHINGTON - Today, on his first day on duty, Department of the Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke (pronounced ZINK-ee) issued two secretarial orders which expand access to public lands and increase hunting, fishing, and recreation opportunities nationwide. These orders deliver on promises made by both President Donald J. Trump and Secretary Zinke to expand access to America’s public lands. The action was hailed by representatives from sportsmen, conservation, and recreation organizations. 

New study identifies biomass harvesting techniques that have few long-term impacts
